Congratulations! Thank you for trusting me with one of the most significant milestones in your life.
The best thing about choosing me as a celebrant to your wedding is that together we can create a ceremony that is a perfect fit for you both. Your ceremony will be written specifically for you. I will support you in including possible readings, music, vows and rituals. Your ceremony can be whatever you want it to be!
As a celebrant, I have the freedom of celebrating your wedding anywhere. The choices are endless and yours! You may choose a beautiful beach, a peaceful woodland, a colourful meadow, or on a boat.
Firstly, I will meet with you both to get to know you. This will allow us to start to build a relationship. The joining of your 2 lives, in front of your loved ones needs to be a perfect celebration. Your wedding is your choice. I will be in contact with you at all stages leading to your ceremony.
During your ceremony, the vows you use can be whatever you want them to be and delivered in any format. You may choose to include wedding rituals from around the world such as Hand fasting, sand blending, unity candles, blessing of rings or quaich. These may be connected to your culture, family traditions or way of life.
This beautiful ritual involves your wedding rings being passed around to your chosen guests and warmed with their love, blessings and positive energy. By the time the rings make it on your fingers, they will contain something very powerful and very precious - the love and blessings of your friends and family.
Handfasting is a symbolic unity ritual in which a couple stand face to face as their hands are tied together, hence the phrase ‘tying the knot’! Different coloured ribbons may be used, where each ribbon has a significant meaning or attribute. For example, red for love and strength or gold for unity.
As your hands are bound, you can recite special words that express your commitment and love for one another. Handfasting rituals are associated with Pagan ceremonies, but are now often seen in secular, spiritual, and even some Christian ceremonies.
The sand blending ceremony is a tradition full of symbolism. It involves both partners pouring sand from an individual container into a central container. The sand used may be of different colours representing different meanings or attributes. It may also be sand collected by the couple from a place of significance to them, for example, from the beach where they got engaged. The sand blending represents the couple’s life-long commitment and the joining of their two lives. Sometimes parents or children are included in the ceremony, to symbolise the blending of families.
The Unity Candle Ceremony is perhaps one of the most commonly performed rituals at a wedding ceremony. It’s a special way to show the joining of families, the merging of two people and the first steps as a blended family.
It involves the couple using two separate candles to light one centre candle that symbolises the coming together of their two hearts in wedded bliss.
When the couple lights the unity candle, it’s a symbol of the connection that’s been created by the two people who enter into marriage, no longer as two individuals, but as one family unit.
The Quaich is a Scottish traditional two handled cup. It is often referred to as the love cup. The couple each take a handle in order to take a drink, showing that they trust one another to share the cup. The cup can be filled with a drink of the couple’s choice or two drinks could be used symbolising two becoming one.
